New 2020 RAYB Travel “Level of Play” Policy requires all players to register, and play, at their age level (as determined by a May 1st birth date cutoff) with the following exception: Players with a post- May 1st birthday are allowed the option of playing at their respective grade level.
The previous RAYB Travel “Level of Play” Policy required all players to register, and play, at their age level (as determined by a May 1st birth date cutoff). This former policy allowed no exceptions.
RAYB shares the following points of rationale for implementing this revised Travel Level of Play policy:
Important: Players with dual level eligibility (age vs grade) must register for, and participate in tryouts at the level of their choosing. The level chosen will be the only level at which they can play for the 2020 season.
My dual level eligible child has already been registered with RAYB for 2020; can the registration level be changed?
If your child is dual level eligible, yes, their registration level for 2020 can be changed. To facilitate a registration level change please contact Matt Arntzen – RAYB Travel Director (email@example.com)
My child is dual eligible, at what level should I register him/her at?
It is 100% a family’s decision. If your child is enjoying playing at their current level, you might consider leaving them at their age level. If your child has previously expressed disappointment at not being able to play with his/her classmates, then you might consider having him/her tryout at their grade level. Additional considerations include: your child’s baseball playing ability, his/her physical & emotional maturity, and current or previous teammate relationships.
My child played 10U AAA last year and has the dual level eligibility option of either 11U or 12U for this year. If he/she registers for 12U and makes a team, but after tryouts we realize that we don’t fit in with the 12U team he/she made. We have no doubt that our child would have made the 11U AAA team, can he/she be moved to 11U?
No. Your child registered for 12U and made a 12U travel team.
My dual level eligible child opted to register, and thus tryout, with his/her 12U grade level. He/She did not make a 12U travel team. What are his/her options for baseball in 2020?
If open roster space on the lowest (A or AA) 11U travel team exists, the RAYB Travel Director could, at his discretion, place your child on the lowest (A or AA) 11U travel team. If no roster space is available on the lowest 11U team, your child would then be assigned to a RAYB Rec League team for the 2020 Season.
I’m confused as to what dual level eligibility looks like?
Here’s an example for an 11U player for 2020:
Player Birthdate Current Grade Level of play in 2020
Aaron 12-21-2008 5th Grade 11U Only
Jamar 2-20-2009 5th Grade 11U Only
Robert 8-15-2008 6th Grade 11U or 12U
Aaron and Jamar are only eligible to play 11U Travel Baseball in 2020.
Robert is dual level eligible and has the choice of registering for either 11U or 12U for the 2020 RAYB Travel Season. Robert will participate in travel tryouts at the level at which he registers. The level at which Robert registers will be the only level that Robert can play for the 2020 Season.
